The Citadel will have 10 new players on its basketball roster next season after the addition of junior college guard Jon Heyland to the recruiting class Thursday.

Heyland, 6-1 and 190 pounds, will join the Bulldogs in the fall as a junior with two seasons of eligibility after playing two years at Southeastern Community College in Iowa. The Citadel will have nine freshmen, Heyland and five returning players on the roster next season.

"We are thrilled to add a player of Jon's ability to our recruiting class," Citadel coach Ed Conroy said. "He is a person that has all the necessary characteristics to be an outstanding cadet and student in the Corps of Cadets. We really liked Jon's experience, leadership potential and his outstanding production at the highest level of junior college basketball."

Heyland averaged 12.2 points while shooting 43.5 percent from 3-point range last season. He made 164 3-pointers in his career, ranking fourth in conference history.

"Jon will enter next season as the second-most experienced player on our roster behind (senior) Demetrius Nelson, so it was important that he possessed a lot of intangibles," Conroy said. "On the court, Jon is a very talented shooter and scorer."

In addition to the 10 new players, the Bulldogs will have Nelson, redshirt freshman Walter Howard, sophomores Trey Swinton and Bryan Streeter and junior Jonathan Brick on their 2007-08 roster.
