2005 Restaurant of the Year Guide
Best at the Beach

Eleven Center Street Wine & Gourmet
11 Center St., Folly Beach 588- 9898
11 Center Street While 11 Center Street might be the least 'Folly-ish' of Folly Beach restaurants, it's a place we return to again and again. The menu of small plates is interesting and varied and generally very good. The wine store downstairs offers the biggest selection on the island, and one can select a bottle and drink it then and there for a small corkage fee. The upstairs area is open-air while remaining shady in the sun and dry in the rain and affords glimpses of the ocean if you get the right table.

Taco Boy
15 Center St., Folly Beach 588- 6187
A newcomer to Folly Beach, Taco Boy is destined to become one of our favorite stops when we trek to the beach for the day.
The delicious, authentic tacos are light enough not to slow us down and priced gently enough to take it easy on our wallet. The tiny patio is our evening choice for a hard-to-get seat, but indoors is cool and dim in the afternoon, perfect for a respite from the pounding sun.
The inventive cocktail selections from the bar add that perfect 'on vacation' feel for your day at the 'Edge of America.'

Poe's Tavern
2210 Middle St., Sullivan's Island 883- 0083
After the short-lived Doghouse restaurant, and the even-shorter-lived Shanty, the spot on Middle Street seems to have found the right occupant in Poe's Tavern. While not exactly 'on the beach,' Poe's offers a casual feel that makes stopping by with wet hair and sand in your pockets seem perfectly appropriate.
The burgers are uniformly excellent, and the fish tacos authentic enough to remind you of a day in Santa Cruz.
The indoor- outdoor bar and pleasantly shabby patina of wear add to the beachy feel.
